12.7mm and 1/2 Inch Shank Router Bits
12.7mm and 1/2 inch shank router bits are preferred for many larger woodworking profiles because the thicker shank improves stiffness, reduces vibration and supports smoother cuts. They are a strong choice for router tables, cabinet work, raised panels, rabbets, roundovers and repeated routing tasks.
Choose this shank size when your router accepts a matching 1/2 inch collet and the cut requires more stability than a small shank can provide. Always confirm the shank size matches the collet exactly before use.
Large diameter bits should be run at an appropriate lower RPM and used in multiple passes, especially in hardwood, MDF, plywood and laminated panels.
